Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is prioritising its users’ safety and security at all of its airports nationwide to ensure the effectiveness of the measures and procedures taken in the event of accident, security threats or natural disasters.
In a statement released today, the airport operator said these exercises will not only involve the airport community but also all related agencies responsible for national security.
“We have two upcoming exercises at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA’s) second terminal, klia2 and Sandakan Airport on December 9, and 15, respectively,” it said.
MAHB said these two exercises specifically focused on threats in the form of acts of aggression that may occur in an airport environment.
“We would like to reassure airport users who will be passing through these two abovementioned airports that these are just simulated exercises meant to enhance our readiness during emergency situations. Safety measures will be strictly observed at all times throughout the exercise period.”
Agencies that will be involved in these exercises include Prime Minister’s Department (JPM), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM), Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia (DCA), Royal Malaysian Airforce (TUDM), Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) and Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM).
