The assurance was given by UEMC-BinaPuri JV to Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein during his visit to the site of the RM4bil airport project site on Friday.
Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) in a statement, said the project’s contractors have increased their pace of work to meet the deadline.
"MAHB will continue to monitor the work progress of the contractors closely in meeting the committed deadline, and will engage all the stakeholders consistently on the project status," said the airport operator.
On the cost of klia2, which has reportedly started with a price tag of RM1.9bil before ballooning to RM4bil, MAHB said it was due to an increase in the scope of the project to cater to stakeholders’ requirements.
They include an increase in the terminal floor space from 150,000 square km to 257,000 sq km and a land area, which has gone up 4.84 million sq m to 11.19 million sq m.
The project’s runway has also been lengthened from 2.5km to 4km while the number of boarding gates has been increased from 55 to 68.
MAHB said the RM4bil cost was inclusive of government facilities and infrastructure such as a control tower, elevated highway, express rail link platform and utilities amounting to RM600mil.
