AirAsia is celebrating its maiden flight from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi with the launch of its very first ride-hailing services on the island.
The inaugural service utilizing an Airbus A321neo aircraft departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport (klia2) at 0950hrs with a 100% flight load, signifying a strong rebound for domestic air travel.
Bo Lingam, president (Airlines) for AirAsia Group, was present to send off Flight AK6322, the first of nine scheduled daily flights from Kuala Lumpur.
Aside from Kuala Lumpur (63x weekly), AirAsia also has flights to Langkawi departing from Penang (14x weekly), Johor Bahru (7x weekly), Ipoh (3x weekly) and Kota Bharu (3x weekly), making up a total of 90x weekly flights. All flights are operated with a 100% fully vaccinated crew, with strict health protocols and robust procedures in place to maintain the highest safety standards at all times to ensure the well-being of guests and crew.
On ground, AirAsia’s e-hailing service launched its island-wide services, providing passengers with greater choice and convenience, more competitive prices and a safe experience with a 100% fully vaccinated driver fleet.
Riad Asmat, AirAsia Malaysia CEO, said, “In less than a week, we have sold over 200,000 seats to Langkawi. To facilitate this movement, we have prepared extensively and implemented robust and comprehensive health and safety protocols to ensure all of our guests can travel safely, with our 100% vaccinated crew and frontliners. Guests are advised to make full use of the AirAsia Super App for a seamless and contactless experience throughout the journey – from checking in, uploading and securing health document verification online, through to boarding with an e-boarding pass and including inflight services.”
“After months of preparation, we are thrilled to get the country flying again and are ready to scale up our operations to meet overwhelming demand. We hope more travel bubbles will be established across the country soon in line with the accelerated vaccination roll out, and eventually across the region when it is safe to do so.”
Amanda Woo, chief executive officer AirAsia Super App, said, “This is a proud day for AirAsia, as we begin to mobilize the AirAsia ecosystem to support Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) and all other industry players on the island, and to revitalize the tourism and economic recovery in Langkawi.
“Travelers can now book their ride from the airport and within Langkawi island, check-in for their flights, SNAP the best accommodation deals in Langkawi and more, all from the convenience of one platform — the AirAsia Super App. In the next few weeks, travelers will be able to complete their duty-free shopping at unbeatable value and prices, coupled with island-wide and same-day delivery across Langkawi hotels, also from the AirAsia Super App.
“We look forward to continuing to make an important contribution to Langkawi and create extra job opportunities for the local community. Together, we will revive the domestic tourism industry and continue to make Langkawi the top holiday, shopping and online duty-free destination in Asean.”
