“AirAsia would like to invite MAHB to make all of the alleged certifications available publicly, especially the full certification from International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and full report from IKRAM,” the low-cost carrier said on Wednesday.
Quoting a statement from the airport operator, AirAsia said MAHB had stated it had received the Aerodrome Certification for klia2 by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and that IKRAM Premier Consulting and the ICAO have both certified klia2 as safe.
“For the record, AirAsia has repeatedly requested for these documents from MAHB for over a year. AirAsia management is puzzled as to why MAHB is extremely hesitant to make the documents public to the members of the media, the public and especially the airport operator’s biggest client at klia2 if indeed MAHB has received them.
“We hope this simple request will be met with the appropriate response by MAHB,” AirAsia said.
AirAsia CEO Aireen Omar has been quoted as saying that the new passenger terminal is sinking, with cracks appearing in the taxiway and water pools forming.
The carrier is seeking RM409mil from MAHB for alleged losses and damages incurred while operating from klia2 and from the low-cost carrier terminal (LCCT).
The RM4bil klia2, dedicated for low-cost carriers, was opened in May last year after several delays. It caters for 45 million passengers.
