On the topic of klia2 deadline, the UEM – Bina Puri Joint Venture (JV) says the main terminal, sky bridge and piers for the new airport in Sepang, Selangor will be ready in time for the opening on May 2, next year.

"Our paramount objective is to complete the project without compromising the safety, quality and operational efficiency of the new airport. We will not engage in the blame game in the public arena and we hope all parties will do so as well," UEM-Bina Puri said via email yesterday.
UEM-Bina Puri was responding to a Business Times article yesterday titled ?ain Terminal Hitch To Blame?
Business Times reported that the low-cost terminal building (klia2) could have opened on June 28 2013 as Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) would have accelerated the remaining works at the airport if the main terminal had been completed on time.
MAHB had awarded 53 work packages for the project since 2010.
However, the completion date of the airport missed five deadlines.
UEM-Bina Puri, the main contractor, and MAHB have been pointing fingers at each other for the delay. The JV won a RM997.2 million contract in June 2010 to build the main terminal and satellite buildings, a sky bridge and four piers.
UEM is contructing the main terminal and two piers while Bina Puri is building the satellite tower, sky bridge and two piers.
MAHB, however, had new requirements for the JV to build a larger terminal with additional check-in counters and a fully automated baggage handling system.
The JV was given an extension of time (EOT) up to June 15 2013, and allowed variation order claims for the additional work.
MAHB imposed liquidated and ascertained damages (LAD) fine on the JV after it missed the June 15 deadline.
UEM-Bina Puri said it had requested for EOT to undertake the various design changes imposed on the JV by the airport operator but the approved extended period granted by MAHB was not sufficient to undertake all of the construction work.
"We would like to once again reiterate that we reserve our rights under the contract and agreement we had signed with MAHB and that we will broach the matter of LAD with MAHB upon the handover of the project," the group said.
Under the contractual obligation, the JV is supposed to finish constructing the main terminal and satellite buildings, obtain the certificate of completion and compliance (CCC) and operational readiness & airport transfer (ORAT) by June 15 this year.
The JV has said it will complete the project and obtain the CCC and ORAT by April 30 2014. Based on this, MAHB said the airport will open on May 2, 2014.
