Malaysia’s low-cost carrier MYAirline Sdn Bhd is set to introduce its first-ever international flight to Bangkok, Thailand from Kuala Lumpur starting June this year.
The New Straits Times has learned that the inaugural flight would commence on June 28 while ticket sale would start on Wednesday (May 10).
The flight will depart from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 2 to Don Mueang International Airport and Suvarnabhumi International Airport.
Sources said it was the right time to introduce international destinations now as air travel demand continued to increase.
“The Malaysian and overall travel market continue to seek airlines that provide value, reliability and experience, and the overall market remain with growth opportunity to benefit all airlines,” a source said.
The source added that MYAirline would begin with one flight daily to Bangkok from Kuala Lumpur with its Airbus A320 aircraft.
“Eventually, the flight would be increased to twice daily or more.”
Thailand is the budget carrier’s first international destination after less than one-year of operations in the local Malaysian market.
The airline has quickly gained travellers’ trust since launching its first flight to Langkawi, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu on Dec 1 2022.
Currently, MYAirline is flying to Kota Bharu, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi, Miri, Penang, Sibu and Tawau from Kuala Lumpur with seven of its narrow-body A320 planes.
The carrier recently signed a deal for an additional 17 A320s on a lease basis in order to meet its fleet size target of 20 aircraft by year-end.
Sources said following Thailand, the airline was gearing up to launch Vietnam, Singapore and Cambodia destinations by this year.
MyAirline had posted a job search for country manager of Thailand on its LinkedIn account six days ago.
It also, about one week ago, published a vacancy for customer service and pre-flight officer for Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
In March this year, the carrier posted two jobs – station duty manager and duty manager based in Hanoi and Saigon, Vietnam and Siem Reap and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
