Cyberjaya Hospital has the potential to become a primary responding hospital to handle disasters at the country’s entry points, such as Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2.
Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said this is due to the strategic location of the Hospital.
She said the Sepang International Circuit and Cyberjaya Silicon Valley in the Sepang district could also benefit from the hospital’s health services.
“The Health Ministry is looking into providing a magnetic resonance imaging machine to the Hospital to meet current needs and to prepare it to handle disasters at KLIA,” she said in her speech at a ceremony to officiate Cyberjaya Hospital here today.
Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah officiated Cyberjaya Hospital, which was built at a cost of RM508.8 million.
Dr Zaliha, whose speech was read out by her deputy, Lukanisman Awang Sauni, said Cyberjaya Hospital was built to reduce the bed occupancy rate of hospitals in the Klang Valley and ease the congestion at nearby hospitals, such as Serdang Hospital, Kajang Hospital and Putrajaya Hospital.
She said hospitals in Sepang and Hulu Langat districts, especially Kajang Hospital, had bed occupancy rates of more than 90 per cent, while bed occupancy rates at Serdang Hospital and Ampang Hospital were more than 80 per cent.
She said this nine-storey Hospital is a major specialist hospital that provides advanced specialist services. It has eight operating theatres, 10 delivery rooms and 288 beds.
“This Hospital will benefit 282,000 residents in Sepang, including people in the Dengkil and Labu areas.”
She said the ministry was looking into introducing geriatric treatment and psychiatric services at Cyberjaya Hospital soon after taking into account the rise in the number of senior citizens and mental illness cases.
