The Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference on Wednesday and Thursday aims to create a Madani society free of corruption by bringing together policymakers and industry leaders.
National Governance Planning Division director Datuk Aziz Aban said the conference — organised by the division, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and five universities — would act as a platform for policymakers and industry players to assess, plan and take action to achieve these goals.
He said this would also allow the sharing of research findings in the context of governance, integrity and anti-corruption.
The conference, to be held at the Movenpick Hotel and Convention Centre KLIA, will see the presentation of 10 research papers.
The division was known as the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption and is part of the MACC.
Aziz said: “From these studies, we can examine the causes and risk areas associated with integrity management, governance and acts of corruption using a valid and trustworthy research meth-odology.
“It is proposed that the research findings be taken to a higher level for consideration in national policy making, involving governance, integrity and anti-corruption issues, for instance by the National Governance Special Cabinet Committee and the Anti-Corruption Committee.”
He added: “This conference is a continuation of the first Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Research Conference, also held at Movenpick Hotel and Convention Centre KLIA last year.”
The conference is a collaboration with five universities: Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Perlis and Multimedia University.
Aziz said the government played an important role in improving the internal control of organisations by reducing the risk of corruption in service delivery and ensuring that the service delivery goals were achieved.
He said the efforts must benefit not only target recipients but also the community without being entangled with issues of leakage and malpractice.
