THE Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (Motac) launched the second version of the Tourism Recovery Plan 2022 yesterday which incentivises Malaysians by giving discounts, vouchers and rebates to stimulate domestic tourism.
This is a continuation of the Economic Stimulus Package (PRE 1.0), which was launched last year.
Motac Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the PRE 1.0 campaign in 2021 saw a total of 26 collaborations implemented involving the redemption of programme vouchers, discounts and rebates, including selected special-interest products for reviving the tourism sector.
In addition, 10 collaborations with the media have been established for the publication of articles for tourism promotion activities as well as advertising and production of videos through print, electronic and digital media.
“In total, 238,908 vouchers were redeemed by Malaysians throughout the campaign period,” she said.
The 2022 Tourism Recovery Plan began on April 29, 2022, and covers two clusters, namely the Land Transport Cluster and the Tourism Association Cluster.
However, this initiative will be expanded gradually to include Air and Accommodation Clusters as well as the Special Interest Tourism Clusters covering the scuba diving, lodge, shopping and theme park segments.
This cooperation will also be established with companies such as Malaysia Airlines Bhd, Capital A Bhd (AirAsia), Firefly, Batik Air Malaysia (Malindo Air) and also MASwings Sdn Bhd specifically to accommodate the people of Sabah and Sarawak.
In addition, cooperation under PRE 2.0 will also be implemented with the support of fellow industry players such as the Malaysia Association of Tour and Travel Agents, Malaysian Hotel Association, Hotel Owners Association Malaysia, Malaysian Budget & Business Hotel Association, Hotel Seri Malaysia, Malaysian Scuba Divers Association, Kampungstay and Homestay Association Malaysia, Association Malaysian Complex Management and the Park Association Malaysian Family Entertainment Theme and Centre.
“We hope to achieve our goal of increasing domestic tourism by 50% by 2020, and by 100% by 2022.
“Under the land transportation cluster, Motac through Tourism Malaysia has forged joint strategic cooperation with KLIA Express and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB).
“Through KLIA Express, a total of 24,875 users have the opportunity to redeem a RM10 discount for the purchase of a departure ticket or return ticket (one way only) from KL Sentral to KLIA/klia2 or vice versa, starting from April 29 to Nov 30, 2022,” she said.
Meanwhile, through cooperation with KTMB, a total of 39,800 Malaysians have the opportunity to enjoy a fare of RM15 for each trip provided the ticket purchase value is RM16 all across the state.
Reservations can be made on a “first come, first served” basis, through the KTMB mobile application or at counters and ticket machines from April 29 to Nov 30, 2022.
As part of the Tourism Association Cluster, Tourism Malaysia collaborates with the Malaysian Domestic Tourism Association; the Malaysian Chinese Inbound Tourism Promotion Association; the Malaysian Chinese Tourism Association; the Association of Malaysian Indian Travel and Tourism; and the Association of Bumiputera Tourism Operating Companies Malaysia to provide various tourist destination packages on a domestic level.
Malaysians can get a discount of RM100 for one transaction to purchase a travel package worth RM200 or more from April 29 to Oct 31, 2022, for the duration of the trip until Dec 31, 2022.
Every MyKad holder is eligible to redeem this discount only once, and the purchase must be made through Shopee Pay.
An estimated 14,925 users will receive these benefits, with the target of package sales being a total holiday worth RM2.99 million.
Nancy also officiated the second version of the “Cuti-Cuti Malaysia” song, entitled “Menemui Semula”, sung by Aina Abdul, written by lyricist James Boyle and composed by Ananth Kumar.
The song is an ethnic pop genre with a combination of world music, hip hop and electronic dance music. It also incorporates traditional music such as flute, gamelan, erhu and kompang to encapsulate the essence of Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.
The lyrics of the song are meant to encourage Malaysians to explore the experience of travelling in the country by enjoying the treasures of nature with their family.
