PLUS Malaysia Bhd will ensure Rest and Service areas (R&R) will be operating 24-hours a day throughout the Aidilfitri period.
This is in line with the company’s expectation that more than two million vehicles travel on its PLUS highway network on each peak day between April 29 and May 9 in conjunction with the festive celebration.
“Two years have passed since most families nationwide have been able to see each other for Aidilfitri, and as we move into the endemic phase, our business partners at all R&Rs and lay-bys can conduct their businesses as usual to provide delicious fare for everyone to enjoy, making their balik kampung journey a delightful experience,” Plus CEO Datuk Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi said.
“As such, we remind all highway customers planning to stop at these rest areas to adhere to the latest Covid-19 standard operating procedures issued by the Health Ministry,” he added.
In anticipation of a higher increase in the volume of highway customers patronage, additional mobile toilets and water tankers are made readily available at R&Rs and lay-bys to accommodate the influx of visitors.
“In the event of overcrowding that disrupts traffic flow along the highway mainline, some of these rest areas will be temporarily closed to manage the congestion and will be immediately reopened once the crowd has dispersed and traffic flow resumes back to normal.
“In such occasion, highway customers are advised to proceed to the next nearest rest stop. At the same time, public restrooms and suraus are also available at the toll plazas and highway exit points,” Zakaria said.
Meanwhile, Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) has increased its train service frequency during peak hours and is also operating longer hours from yesterday to meet the rising passenger ridership.
With the revised schedule, the service frequency increases from every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes during weekday peak hours while off-peak frequency remains at 30-minute intervals.
KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit will continue to be operated as a combined service but will now start from 5am from both KL Sentral and klia2 every day.
The last train departure from klia2 is now at 12:10am while the last train departure from KL Sentral is at 11:10pm.
