MFMA Development Sdn Bhd opened its third phase of the Mitsui Outlet Park KLIA Sepang (MOP KLIA) in Selangor to the public yesterday, which features five more large concept stores.
The latest extension measures approximately 82,885 sq ft of gross floor area, making it the biggest factory outlet mall in South-East Asia.
The expansion boasts two new tenants — home and living store OBJET and electronics and furniture retailer COURTS.
OBJET has opened its first outlet of its kind in the country in MOP KLIA, where it offers a variety of merchandise and products which caters to different parts of the house to different kinds of designs — albeit inticrate, simple, lavish, cozy, opulent or post-modern minimalism.
Moreover, Phase 3 also introduced new concept stores from sports brands Adidas, Puma and Nike.
The new Adidas Factory Outlet and Puma Factory Outlet are South-East Asia’s largest stores, while Nike Unite KLIA brings a new kind of shopping experience which reflects the local community.
According to MFMA deputy MD TJ Cheah, they have shifted their strategy to open new experiential stores in Phase 3 instead.
“Our decision to go with this new concept is based on several factors, which include the latest shopping trends and the current situation that we’re in.
“Experiential stores are trending now all over the world and few malls are already following this trend,” he said during his welcome note.
Cheah explained that shoppers are more interested in immersive shopping experiences, so these new stores are more versatile, allowing retailers to recreate it using this space — which also include a bit of entertainment, food and beverage (F&B) and areas to take Instagram-worthy photos.
“Considering these factors, we have designed Phase 3 to fit the current trend and situation.
“We believe shoppers will find MOP KLIA a more interesting place to shop, not just with a better tenant mix, but will also improve the shopping experience.”
Cheah felt that this opening is timely as he expects the footfall traffic of the mall to increase since the Hari Raya holidays are just around the corner.
Last year, the MOP KLIA’s footfall soared during the holiday season, which led to the success of its year-end sale that lasted from December 2021 until mid-January this year.
To celebrate the launch of the extension, MOP KLIA is giving away a Toyota Rush to one lucky winner through a contest, where shoppers need to spend a minimum of RM300 in a maximum of two receipts at the five new outlets.
Apart from the Hari Raya promotions that take place from April 1 to May 8, shoppers can also enjoy good deals and bargains. Moreover, the mall has also increased its car park capacity to meet the rising number of shoppers.
MFMA director Frankie Lee Chee Lih believed that MOP KLIA utilises the concept of going together with the community, as well as understanding and meeting their needs. At the same time, providing an enriching experience by localising the outlet to cater to the community and consumers here.
“Our earlier phases will also be upgraded from time to time in keeping abreast of the price and trend, so that we will always have something new that our shoppers can look forward to Phase 3, maybe completion phase for MOP KLIA.
“But it will not be the object of our progressions as they will always be something waiting in the mall,” he said.
MOP KLIA is located only eight minutes away from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2, as well as a 45-minute drive from the Kuala Lumpur City Centre.
Shoppers can access the mall through various highways such as the North–South Expressway Central Link, the DamansaraPuchong Expressway, Shah Alam Expressway, Maju Expressway and the North Klang Valley Expressway.
MFMA is a joint venture between Mitsui Fudosan Co Ltd and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.
