The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Langkawi International Airport (LGK) retained their positions as the world’s best airports by achieving perfect scores of 5.00 in the airport service quality (ASQ) survey for the third quarter of 2022 (3Q2022).
In a statement on Wednesday (Nov 30), operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said both airports also attained the same top spots in 2Q2022.
It said that for 3Q2022, KLIA shared the achievement in the over 40 million passengers per annum (mppa) category alongside eight other airports.
Meanwhile, it said LGK was the only airport in the category of two to five mppa to score full points in the survey.
ASQ is a global survey by Airports Council International that measures overall passenger satisfaction for terminal safety, facilities, services, and cleanliness.
MAHB managing director Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood said air travel is experiencing a more rapid recovery in the second half of the year.
“With increasing passengers coming through the airport, we wish to remove any unnecessary stress from travelling by ensuring efficient procedures, well-functioning facilities and hospitable airport staff,” he said.
MAHB said more airlines resumed their flight routes to Malaysia in October, including KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL) non-stop from Amsterdam (AMS), All Nippon Airways (NH) from Tokyo-Haneda (HND), and Lion Air (JT) from Surabaya (SUB) to Kuala Lumpur (KUL).
MAHB also saw the reinstatements of the Manila (MNL)-Kota Kinabalu (BKI) route by Cebu Pacific (5J) and the Penang (PEN)-Denpasar (DPS) route by AirAsia (AK) in Malaysia.
Passenger traffic performance in October for MAHB’s domestic operations registered a total of 5.4 million movements (international: 2.1 million; domestic: 3.3 million), while its Türkiye operations at the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW) recorded 2.9 million movements (international: 1.5 million; domestic: 1.4 million).
The airport operator said that compared to the preceding month, international traffic increased by 9% at the group’s airports in Malaysia, and 3% at SAW.
On the whole, the group recorded a total of 8.3 million passenger movements in October, surpassing the eight million mark for the second month in a row.
