The Health Ministry has given its thumbs up to the smooth flow governing the reopening of Malaysia’s borders today.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said to ensure a smooth and safe opening of the country’s borders, the ministry had made preparations in advance to welcome the arrival of travellers at the country’s main international entry points.
“The preparations made included engagement sessions with relevant ministries and agencies such as the National Security Council, Transport Ministry, Foreign Ministry, Home Ministry, the National Disaster Management Agency, police, Immigration Department, Customs Department, Defence Ministry, Finance Ministry and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, among others.
“Overall, the ministry is satisfied with the borders reopening at the country’s main international entry points, be it air and land, namely the Johor Causeway, Second Link, Bukit Kayu Hitam and Wang Kelian,” he said after his visit to klia2 today.
Khairy said the ministry has also deployed health workers at all international entry points to ensure all Covid-19 prevention health protocols are complied with by travellers entering Malaysia.
He said a total of 346 health personnel have been assigned for each shift at 75 international entry points nationwide.
“Of the total, 250 were stationed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 to help those with application problems.”
Meanwhile, Khairy said the travellers, when met, also expressed their satisfaction with the smooth process upon arrival, including getting travellers’ cards in MySejahtera.
“I have asked the airlines, especially AirAsia, to ensure that travellers fill in MySejahtera to get the travellers’ card before they board the aircraft.
“This has helped to avoid congestion at KLIA and klia2.”
Khairy said the ministry will continue to improve its communications with the airlines to ensure a seamless process.
Asked if any of the travellers had tested positive upon arrival, Khairy replied: “Not yet, we will inform once the data is available.”
