The newly-launched Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KLATCC) is set to help the civil aviation industry rebound as the country is in the midst of economic recovery, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic).
The Prime Minister said that although the industry had seen a visible decline since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused international borders to close and affected the aviation sector, the improving trend is expected to continue through 2025.
“The operations of the KLATCC is timely, as the country is taking steps for the national economy to recover.
“It is my biggest hope as we prepare for the reopening of the country’s international borders soon, that it (KLATCC) will spur the industry and directly give a positive impact as well as subsequently boost the national economy,” he said at the launch of the KLATCC here on Wednesday (Dec 1).
Designed after the local traditional kite or wau and infused with modern design elements, the new KLATCC began taking shape on Jan 18, 2016, with an allocation of RM650.366mil.
Ismail Sabri said Malaysians can be proud of the KLATCC, with its capabilities and unique design.
The new facility also includes a three-storey complex fitted with new communications, navigation, surveillance and air traffic management systems.
The Prime Minister added that the new systems will make air traffic control more seamless and efficient, and enhance air traffic management in the country to be at par with other developed nations.
