The “KUL Colours and Lights” campaign was inspired by the vibrancy of the Festival of Lights.
Airport guests were acquainted with Indian culture through a dazzling display of festive decorations, dance performances and a variety of offerings for Deepavali.
Malaysia Airports senior general manager for commercial services Nazli Aziz said it was their goal to transform the airports into preferred destinations.
“We want people to know that the airport makes a great festive hub where everyone can gather to celebrate joyous occasions such as Deepavali.
“Our primary objective is to provide the best and most memorable experiences for all.”
Complementing the dazzling ambience of the airport was a colourful kolam, incorporating intricate patterns and bright coloured motifs.
Like the kolam, KUL Colours and Lights captured the essence of the harmonious relationship of the multicultural community at the airport.
Yellow signified happiness while red and blue represented good fortune and peace.
In addition to the elaborate colours was the majestic peacock, regarded as an auspicious symbol in Hinduism.
Adding to the festivities was a series of activities, which included a social media contest where visitors were encouraged to take photos with the decorations at KLIA and klia2 terminals to redeem instant gifts at the airport.
They stood a chance to win exclusive prizes by tagging Malaysia Airports at #kulcoloursnlights.
Other activities included the distribution of murukku to visitors and a showcase of Indian cultural dance performances at KLIA and klia2 terminals on Deepavali day.
“I hope that in our own special way, we are helping to spread the message of appreciating other cultures and beliefs in Malaysia and coming together as one community,” added Nazli.
