AirAsia X Bhd and Thai AirAsia X today announced Tehran as their latest destination in the group’s route network, connecting both Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok directly to the Iranian capital.
Direct flights to Tehran from Kuala Lumpur (klia2) and Bangkok (Don Mueang International Airport) will be operated three times weekly, with the commencement dates set for June 21 and 22 respectively.
AirAsia X chief executive officer Benyamin Ismail said Iran is a large and growing economy and Tehran is a brilliant business city, with the recent lifting of sanctions opening up exciting new prospects for Iran as a tourist destination.
“We believe that the revival of direct flights to Tehran from Kuala Lumpur is timely and we foresee that our direct flights from both Asean cities of Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok can improve bilateral relations while encouraging trade and tourism activities between the cities,” he said in a statement today.
From Bangkok, the flights take off every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 3.10pm, arriving inTehran at 10.20pm local time there. Return flights take off at 9.50pm and arrive in Bangkok the next day at 8am.The klia2 flights leave every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday at 7.05pm, arriving in Tehran at 11.40pm local time there. The return flights take off at 1.05am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, arriving at klia2 at 12.45pm.
