The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) hopes the public will continue to use public transportation, even in the face of declining fuel prices.
SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said using public transportation is part and parcel of going green.
“This can also help control the level of pollution emitted by vehicles,” Syed Hamid said at the launch of the KLIA Express and KLIA Transit’s new train livery at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (klia2) here yesterday.
A global plunge in crude oil prices has caused a reduction in pump prices of petrol in Malaysia to RM1.70 (RON95) and RM2 (RON97) per litre, while diesel retails at RM2 per litre.
Syed Hamid also urged transport providers to innovate and improve services so that more people will be drawn to using public transport.
Among the proposed initiatives were improving safety standards and service reliability, and coming up with attractive and convenient travel products.
Earlier on, Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) chief executive officer Noormah Mohd Noor said the new livery features a cheetah as it is the world’s fastest animal on land, which is reflective of the train’s speed and reliability.
She said the cheetah would replace the flora and fauna batik motif that the trains have been sporting since it began operations in 2002.
“We were looking for a new world-class design that reflects ERL’s vision, embodies our identity and communicates ERL’s goals,” she said.
Noormah added that the new livery also signifies ERL’s commitment to evolve and incorporate innovative business solutions to its operations, aside from keeping up with customers’ demands.
The 59km journey from KL Sentral to klia2 using KLIA Express takes 33 minutes, with a one-way ticket costing RM35.
