Malaysian Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) passenger traffic grew by 3.8 per cent to 7.2 million in June 2014 compared with 6.99 million in the corresponding period last year.
“International passenger traffic increased by 2.7 per cent while domestic passengers decreased by 1.9 per cent,” it said in a statement today. MAHB said international traffic grew by two per cent while the domestic sector registered a 5.4 per cent growth over the same period last year.
KLIA’s main terminal building traffic decreased by 8.3 per cent while klia2 grew by 12.8 per cent due to the shift of Lion Air and Malindo Airways from KLIA-Main to klia2 on May 2, 2014, it said.
On the year-to-date traffic up to June 2014, MAHB said it handled 41.33 million passenger movements, registering 11.8 per cent growth over the corresponding period in 2013.
KLIA, on the converse, registered 20.01 million passengers with 10.4 per cent growth over the same period in 2013, it said. MAHB said the growth in the domestic movements was within expectations, given the high base last year as well as the trend in market share movements between domestic carriers.
Based on the year-to-date traffic performance and identified volatilities, MAHB said it expected the year to end with about 85 million passengers or about a seven per cent growth over the 2013 total number, which was still above the target of over 83 million passengers. — Bernama
