The ponding or collection of water at klia2’s apron (aircraft parking area) was due to ineffective soil treatment in the early stages, noted the Transport Ministry.
Its deputy secretary-general (planning), Datuk Ruhaizah Mohamed Rashid, said the incident was often blown out of proportion and mistaken as a result of flooding.
“The ponding only occurred at the aircraft parking area, also known as the apron.
“It is not dangerous,” she replied to a question from the floor at the “Session with the Media” for the third series of the 2013 Auditor-General’s Report.
She said several meetings were held between the ministry and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), which resulted in the latter’s operator embarking on a special maintenance programme.
The immediate and long-term solutions included routine patching work, resurfacing work and laying of a concrete slab at the affected parking apron and taxiways.
On Nov 4, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai had called for an independent audit committee to be set up to conduct a thorough investigation into the issue.
Meanwhile, responding to a question on why the Auditor-General’s Department did not go into 1Malaysia Development Bhd’s (1MDB) accounts, Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang said:
“As far as their accounts are concerned, they have already been audited by one of the big four international companies.
“There is no reason why we should ask 1MDB to open up their books again because the auditing of financial statements is a very laborious examination of documents.”
The big four international audit firms are Deloitte, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young and KPMG.
1MDB appointed Deloitte as its auditor in December last year.
