Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) reported a 6.9% increase in its earnings to RM102.73 million in the first quarter ended March 31, 2012 from RM96.09 million a year ago.
It said on Thursday its revenue rose 6.4% to RM657.70mil from RM617.77mil. Earnings per share were 9.22 sen compared with 8.74 sen.
MAHB said the consolidated profit before tax and zakat (PBT) for the current quarter was up 9% or RM12.7mil from a year ago as it included RM6.6mil profit from construction of klia2 and Penang International Airport. Excluding the construction profit, PBT increased by 10% or RM13.4 million.
"The favourable PBT variance was attributed to the positive growth in revenue and lower share of associate losses.
"Share of associate losses was lower primarily due to higher profit recorded by GMR Male International Airports (GMIA) and lower loss from Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISGIA)," it said.
MAHB said that total cost increased by 15.6% or RM44.2mil due to the increase in staff cost while utilities also rose mainly due to higher passenger movements.
