A report by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) showed that both domestic and international passenger movements at airports operated in Malaysia have improved in April.
In its Bursa filing, MAHB reported year-on-year passenger traffic growth of 4.6%, recording nine million movements as of April 2015.
Domestic traffic recorded 4.9 million passengers, an increase of 7.8% while international traffic recorded 4 million, an increase of 0.9% over the same corresponding period.
“This is the first positive for international passenger traffic for the year.”
KLIA handled four million passenger movements, a marginal increase of 0.01% in April 2015 compared to April 2014 – but still an improvement over the last three months performance.
KLIA Main terminal passengers declined by 6.9% while klia2 increased by 7.9%.Domestic traffic increased by 0.8%, while international traffic declined by 0.3%.
Overall aircraft movements at KLIA increased by 7.6% over April 2014. Domestic and international aircraft movements increased by 8.4% and 7.2% respectively.
MAHB said that although the international still remained in the negative, “we do foresee a positive turnaround in the international sector by May 2015.
“The decline in the China sector traffic has reduced significantly to 5% range.”
“There is also a reduction in the decline of the Middle East traffic. For April 2015, the South Asia traffic growth remained buoyant at 13.7%.
“Nepal which has been affected by the earthquake also recorded a positive of 10.5% for April 2015 but we foresee a short to medium term decline in the Nepal traffic from May 2015.”
