The Transport Ministry has received the business proposal for the redevelopment plan of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (SAAS) airport from Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the proposal was being reviewed by the ministry as well as other ministries for their feedback.
“They’ve (MAHB) come back to us and the proposal is being reviewed by the ministry. We’ve circulated it to other ministries for their comments and it’ll be submitted to the Cabinet within this month,” he added.
In February this year, Loke announced that the SAAS airport, or commonly known as Subang Airport, would be redeveloped into a premium city airport and aviation hub after the Cabinet approved plans for its redevelopment, dubbed Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP).
The SARP will see Subang Airport as a regional commercial and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) aviation hub that will have narrow-body aircraft operations again with a maximum capacity of eight million passengers a year.
Following the opening of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in 1998, SAAS had to gradually slow down the operations of single-aisle aircraft and eventually the airplanes were disallowed to land or take-off from the terminal.
Loke said in February that after the submission of the business plan proposal to the ministry, he would re-table it to the Cabinet again for approval of the plan before any announcement was made.
