More shuttle buses will be provided to ensure a seamless transition of passengers from the satellite building to the main terminal at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, says the Transport Minister.
Anthony Loke said that while Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) is also looking into other options, the priority remains on increasing shuttle buses.
“We will increase the number of buses to make sure it (passenger mobility) is seamless and better services will also be provided.
“Various other options are being discussed (between the ministry and MAHB) but for the time being, our main priority will be increasing the number of shuttle buses,” he told reporters at an event at AirAsia’s headquarters here on Tuesday (March 7).
On March 3, MAHB said that it will suspend its aerotrain operations at KLIA until further notice.
Its managing director Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood said this was because the existing trains were constantly breaking down given that the assets are 25 years old.
On the congestion issue at Immigration counters at the airport, Loke said that while the Immigration counter service was not under his ministry’s purview, MAHB will play its role through crowd control.
“The airport management is prepared to help control and manage the crowd (at Immigration counters).
“However, Immigration counters are beyond the jurisdiction of the Transport Ministry and MAHB. But I believe that the Home Ministry is taking a lot of efforts to improve the services at Immigration counters,” he added.
Last week, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail announced that visitors from 10 low-risk countries will be able to use the autogate facilities at KLIA.
It was to address congestion issues at Immigration counters.
