Letter from RYAN P
WHILE travelling via KLIA Terminal 1 recently, I was dismayed to see the airport in dire need of significant improvements. From the non-functional aerotrain service (pic) to the confusing signboards and faulty travelators, my experience was marred by numerous inconveniences and frustrations.

What is particularly concerning is the state of the departure gates. Rusty chairs and malfunctioning lights within the Gate C area create an unpleasant and uninviting atmosphere for travellers.
Not only is this a poor reflection of the airport’s facilities, but it also detracts from the overall travel experience for visitors to Malaysia.
There are further concerns that need to be addressed at KLIA. For instance, there are no proper signboards to guide passengers to the shuttle bus between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. This leads to confusion and can result in passengers missing their flights.
Furthermore, outdated information are still being displayed, which only adds to the confusion. Instead of referring to Terminal 2, the signboard at Terminal 1 still refers to KLIA2, which is no longer relevant. This lack of attention to detail and failure to update the information in signboards only add to the frustration and confusion of passengers.
Another problem is the lack of signboards to guide passengers to the retail and F&B outlets on other floors. While there may be many great shops and restaurants available, passengers may miss them because of the lack of proper information.
This not only affects the overall experience for passengers but also results in missed opportunities for businesses operating within the airport.
It is imperative that these issues are addressed promptly to improve the experience of passengers using KLIA.
Proper signboards and directions are essential components of any airport, and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad, the operator, must ensure that passengers are provided with clear and concise information to help them get around easily.
A modern and efficient airport is a critical component of any country’s tourism infrastructure, hence it is disappointing to see that KLIA is falling behind in this regard. As one of the main gateways to Malaysia, KLIA should be showcasing the country’s best features and providing a positive first impression to visitors.
It’s time to take action and invest in improving the airport’s facilities, from upgrading the aerotrain to ensuring that all signboards and equipment are functional and well maintained. This will not only benefit travellers but also demonstrate Malaysia’s commitment to providing a world-class experience for airport users.
