KLIA and klia2 will be renamed as KLIA Terminal 1 and KLIA Terminal 2, the Transport Ministry announced today.
Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the Cabinet had agreed to this to improve both airports’ marketability and effectiveness, as well as allow them to compete with other international airports in the region.
Loke, however, did not reveal when this would be implemented.
He added that the government and Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) would need to fine-tune their new operating agreement first.
“The government and MAHB will need to finalise and sign the 2023 agreement and other related lease agreements before the end of the first quarter of 2023,” FMT quoted him as saying at a press conference here today.
Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1, or KLIA, is Malaysia’s main International airport and one of the major airports in South East Asia. The Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA) is now the largest and busiest airport in Malaysia.
Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2 (klia2) is built to cater for the explosive growth in low-cost travel industry. It can accommodate 45 million passengers per year. It is designed to be the Next Generation International Airport Hub for Malaysia to facilitate seamless connectivity for both local and international low-cost & full-service carriers like AirAsia.
