Malaysia’s vibrant capital city of Kuala Lumpur is about to see boosted capacity early next year after Etihad Airways announced new flight frequency changes for flight services from Abu Dhabi.
When the updated frequency change commences, the airline will provide passengers with 14 flights per week connecting the two major cities available both in the day and night.
Twice daily to Kuala Lumpur
Commencing on January 15th next year, Etihad will offer the Abu Dhabi-Kuala Lumpur route with another daily flight service, which will see the airline flying twice daily to the vibrant capital city with a morning and night service.
The flight schedules are as follows:
Flight number | Departure time | Arrival time | Frequency |
---|---|---|---|
EY 412 (AUH – KUL) | 08:45 | 19:50 | Daily |
EY 411 (KUL – AUH) | 21:15 | 00:40+1 | Daily |
EY 418 (AUH – KUL) | 21:00 | 08:05+1 | Daily |
EY 413 (KUL – AUH) | 09:25 | 12:50 | Daily |
Both daily frequencies will utilize the airline’s flagship Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner fleet, but although a few fleet members are configured with first class cabins, only economy and business class will be offered for this route.
With 28 business class seats and 271 economy class seats, the double daily Boeing 787-9 offerings will see Etihad offering an estimated 425,000 seats annually between Abu Dhabi International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
With the boosted frequency, a significant year-on-year capacity increase of 75% will be achieved, and the growing demand for air travel between the two cities will be better met, as confirmed by the airline’s Chief Revenue Officer, Arik De:
“With our convenient departures from Abu Dhabi, our second Kuala Lumpur flights will optimize timings for United Arab Emirates residents wishing to have a break in Malaysia. Moreover, the new daytime and night-time flights from Kuala Lumpur allow travelers reaching Abu Dhabi more options to explore what the city has to offer in terms of business and pleasure.”
Linking Abu Dhabi with global markets
Concerning business opportunities, Etihad notes that while the additional frequency significantly benefits passengers, it also increases the total annual cargo capacity between Abu Dhabi and Kuala Lumpur.
At the moment, the airline only utilizes belly capacity for air freight between the two cities, but with the added daily service, perhaps there is potential for Etihad Cargo to conduct dedicated freighter flight services to Kuala Lumpur.
Even if there is no potential, added belly capacities still open up more business propositions and support the growing bilateral trade between the UAE and Malaysia.
The new daily service also reaffirms the airline’s commitment to better connecting Abu Dhabi with more global markets, as the frequency adjustment means customers will enjoy even more choice and connectivity between Abu Dhabi and Southeast Asia this upcoming winter.
Etihad will offer up to 77 weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and several Southeast Asian destinations, where Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Phuket, Manila, and Jarkata will receive 14 weekly flights per destination, while Singapore is offered seven weekly flights.
