Batik Air has been selected as an operator for the Kuala Lumpur – Istanbul route with the flights between KLIA and Istanbul Sabiha Gocken International Airport (ISGIA) to commence in October this year, says Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In a posting on his Facebook account this morning following his virtual meeting with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan last night, Anwar reiterated Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) commitment to invest GBP200 million (RM1.16 billion) in ISGIA.
In 2022, Malaysia’s total trade with Turkey rose by 12.6% year-on-year to US$4.62 billion (RM21 billion).
Meanwhile, the total trade surplus stood at US$3.33 billion as Turkey imports palm oil and palm oil-based agricultural products.
Anwar said during the session, Erdogan gave a clear commitment to fulfilling his invitation to visit Malaysia in the near future to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
“We have also agreed to meet face-to-face during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York next month,” he said.
Batik Air is a rapidly expanding Malaysian-based airline with its main hubs at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA) in Sepang and Subang Skypark Terminal at Subang in Selangor, Malaysia.
