Malaysia’s latest low-cost carrier (LCC) MYAirline Sdn Bhd has secured its full air service licence (ASL) from aviation regulator Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom), which allows it to undertake commercial air passenger flights and start selling air tickets.
The full ASL to MYAirline is for a period of 12 months from Nov 15, 2022 to Nov 14, 2023. The LCC last month received its air operator’s certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), which essentially confirmed that the carrier had complied with all safety regulations set in place for aircraft operations.
It will be operating a fleet of Airbus A320-200s out of klia2, with plans to launch its first flights in the fourth quarter (4Q) of 2022, covering key domestic routes.
“We are pleased to receive our ASL from Mavcom a little over a month after CAAM awarded us an AOC. This shows that we are equipped to operate commercial flights with professional capabilities to establish and maintain a reliable system for aircraft operations. Our sincere appreciation to the Ministry of Transport, Mavcom and CAAM for their support,” MYAirline chief executive officer (CEO) Rayner Teo said in a statement on Monday (Nov 21).
The LCC currently employs more than 370 people, with a target to reach 500 by the end of this year.
“The new carrier made a mark in Malaysian aviation history by being the first airline in Malaysia that went through a digital compliance questionnaire audit process and obtained AOC within CAAM’s client charter,” said CAAM CEO Datuk Captain Chester Voo Chee Soon.
Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) data showed that Zillion Wealth Bhd has an 88% stake in MYAirline and Trillion Cove Holdings Bhd has 10% equity interest, while Teo owns the remaining 2% of the airline’s shares. Both Zillion Wealth and Trillion Cove, a moneylending and financing company, name Datuk Goh Hwan Hua as a director.
Apart from Goh and Teo, MYAirline’s three other directors are Datuk Abd Hamid Mohd Ali, former chief operating officer of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd; Datuk Seri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman, former director general of the Malaysian Civil Aviation Department (now known as CAAM); and Jothi Prakash Murugan, a director of Trillion Cove, the SSM filing revealed.
