The on-arrival Covid-19 test for international travellers to Malaysia can be done at any health facility in addition to airports, says Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).
In a statement yesterday, MAHB said the government’s standard operating procedure requires that international travellers do the Covid-19 antigen rapid tests (RTK-AG) within 24 hours of their arrival in Malaysia.
This, it said, could be done at airports as well as any private health facilities, including clinics and hospitals of the travellers’ choice.
“There has been some confusion on the requirement for RTK-AG testing to be done at the airport upon arrival in Malaysia.
“There is no requirement for travellers to do the RTK-AG on-site at the airports.
“The facilities, however, are made available for passengers who wish to have the convenience of doing the tests right away at the airport upon arrival,” MAHB added.
It also dismissed claims that the RTK testing at the airports was being monopolised by certain private healthcare operators.
“This is baseless as it is not mandatory to perform the tests at the airport upon arrival.
“There are four different private healthcare operators providing the services at four different airports: BP Clinical Lab Sdn Bhd for KL International Airport, Edgenta UEMS Sdn Bhd for Penang International Airport, MYEG Services Sdn Bhd for Kota Kinabalu International Airport, and Gribbles Pathology (M) Sdn Bhd for Kuching International Airport,” MAHB added in the statement.
It said passenger processing at its airports had also improved “significantly” in terms of speed and efficiency.
“The government further announced the exemption of tests upon arrival for travel between Malaysia and Singapore for fully vaccinated travellers as part of the specific safety protocols between the two countries,” it said.
