Malaysians and Singaporeans will be able to travel between countries using the Land Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) via the Johor Causeway from 29 November
According to The Straits Times, Singapore’s Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) made the announcement today, 24 November.
The land VTL will be launched on the same day as the air VTL between Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Singapore’s Changi Airport.
As part of the first phase, travellers have to be citizens, permanent residents, or long-term pass holders of the country they are entering
Travellers will also need to use designated VTL bus services.
The PMO said the land VTL is to give priority to those who have been working in either country to visit their families.
“The launch of the (land) VTL is a big step towards reconnecting our people and economies, and will further enhance our bilateral relationship,” said Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, as quoted by CNA.
There will be 32 land VTL designated bus services entering each country per day
Each bus will have a maximum capacity of 45 passengers per trip, which means the VTL scheme will allow a total of 1,440 travellers into each country per day.
The designated services will be operated by two companies:
- Transtar Travel, which will travel between Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal in Johor Bahru and Woodlands Temporary Bus Interchange in Singapore
- Handal Indah, which will travel between Larkin Sentral Bus Terminal and Queen Street Terminal in Singapore
Bus tickets will go on sale at 8am on Thursday, 25 November.
Malaysian travellers must also be fully vaccinated and test negative in a valid pre-departure COVID-19 rapid antigen or polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test two days before departure for Singapore.
