Malaysia Airports is carrying out flood aid duties to help over 1,000 victims around the Sepang area, which was one of the most affected by the Central Malaysia flood catastrophe.
The victims were mostly airport staff living nearby and seeking refuge at the Sultan Abdul Samad Mosque KLIA due to road closures in the surrounding area.
Under the #MYAirportCARES initiative, Malaysia Airports is distributing basic necessities including packed meals, dry and instant food, baby care and hygiene kits to the victims.
Malaysia Airports MD Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood said they had called in a core team of 30 volunteers to help in the aid relief and are currently doing their best to provide basic necessities to the victims.
“Once the flood water recedes, they will also help with cleaning and providing monetary assistance.
“The airport has been diligently monitoring the effects of the floods in the surrounding areas, while ensuring that airport operations continue as usual.
“As many of the flood victims are also airport staff, we have called back some employees who were on their year-end leave and some others are even doing double shifts to make up for the shortfall in manpower,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Following the prevailing situation, the airport community is on high alert for passenger movements during the monsoon season.
