Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said today the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had recently visited its headquarters to investigate the company over tender award issues, confirming a report by The Edge Malaysia weekly.
According to MAHB, the MACC came to its office and requested information and documentation relating to the multi-billion ringgit Covid-19 private screening and testing contract award for Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) that was awarded to BP Clinical Lab Sdn Bhd.
“The company has given full cooperation and complied with all MACC requirements, and there has been no further enquiry from MACC,” MAHB said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today.
The airport operator, however, reiterated that there was no enquiry by the graftbuster about its Automated People Mover (APM) Replacement tender, which has yet to be concluded.
On the APM, MAHB already issued a statement on Monday asserting that procurement processes for all its tenders were conducted in strict compliance with the procurement standard operating procedures (SOPs), with the Anti-Bribery Management System (ABMS) serving as an additional safeguard to provide another layer of control within the company’s processes.
It said these controls were placed at both human and process levels and would act as an intervention to close any possible gaps.
To recap, in an article entitled “MACC investigating MAHB”, The Edge weekly claimed that Pestech International Bhd, in partnership with Canada-based Bombardier, is said to be the front runner for the aerotrain contract.
According to The Edge weekly, speculation is rife that the Pestech-Bombardier bid, said to be above the RM750 million mark, is considerably higher than the lowest bid, at less than RM600 million.
