Around 1,520 travellers flew to Langkawi under the tourism bubble on Thursday (Sept 16), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
In a Facebook post, the Transport Minister said he was on the ground earlier to survey the situation at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA 2.
“I saw that some brought their own saliva self-test kits while others bought them at counters there.
“During my visit, one passenger tested positive for Covid-19 and the necessary isolation works were conducted.
“The passenger’s family did not board the flight as they were listed as close contacts,” he said, adding that eight flights took off from the two airports on Thursday.
Dr Wee also said Covid-19 testing was conducted to ensure the safety of all and to ensure the success of the Langkawi tourism bubble.
“Passengers, including some from France and South Korea, expressed joy when the domestic tourism sector was reopened with this pilot project.
“They also appreciated the government’s efforts to improve the SOPs, including enforcing Covid-19 tests before the start of the journey.
“I would like to remind everyone to continue adhering to the SOPs that have been put in place so that efforts by the government to heal the economic and tourism sectors go smoothly,” he said.
