Sophisticated thermal scanners are being used to screen all passengers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The Transport Minister said he took note of the media reports and allegations that the authorities did not screen every passenger who arrived at the airports.
“Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has given an explanation on the matter and has assured that there was no oversight or lax in the health screening system provided by MAHB at KLIA and KLIA2, ” he said in a Facebook posting.
To those who claimed that there were no officers to physically take their temperature, Dr Wee said not all screening equipment used close screening methods such as those pointed at the forehead or ear like the one used at the entrance of a building.
“The thermal scanners in KLIA and KLIA2 use more sophisticated technology to screen a person’s temperature.
“I have asked Transport (Ministry) secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak to visit KLIA to investigate it and MAHB confirmed that no passengers were left out in the health screening exercise.
“I urge the public not to spread news that are not true, ” he said.
Separately, Dr Wee also met with Pos Malaysia Bhd chief executive officer Syed Md Najib Syed Md Noor regarding the government’s decision to temporarily suspend the services of driving licence and road tax renewals at post office counters during the two-week restricted movement period.
“Pos Malaysia, as one of those providing the most essential services when the country is facing the Covid-19 pandemic, agreed with the government decision, ” he said.
Dr Wee also noted that at present, about 20,000 Pos Malaysia employees are still carrying out their respective duties, sending
an average of 2.1 million letters and 350,000 parcels on a daily basis.
