The sophisticated thermal scanners at the KLIA and klia2 screen all flight passengers without exception, says Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He said he had taken note of media reports and allegations that the authorities did not screen every flight passenger who arrived through Malaysian airports.
“Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has given an explanation on the matter and has assured that there is no oversight in the health screening system provided by MAHB at KLIA and KLIA2,” he said in his Facebook post on Saturday (March 21).
To those who claimed that there were no officers who went close to them to take temperature, Dr Wee said not all screening equipment used close screening methods like those aimed at the forehead or ear at the entrance to buildings.
He added that the thermal scanners used in KLIA and klia2 used a more sophisticated technology to screen a person’s temperature.
“I asked the transport secretary-general Datuk Isham Ishak to visit KLIA on Friday (March 20) to investigate it himself and MAHB confirmed that no passengers were left out in the health screening.
“Hence, the allegations reported in the media are baseless. I urge the public not to spread news that is not true,” he said.
