Rapid Bus ridership has overall declined by 66% following the implementation of the movement control order on Wednesday (Mar 18), says Prasarana Malaysia Bhd.
The BRT Sunway line suffered the biggest loss of ridership at 79.5% followed by MRT feeder buses at 75.7%.
For Rapid KL, ridership has declined by 65.1%, Rapid Penang by 50.8% and Rapid Kuantan by 62%.
“This shows that Malaysians and the public are cooperating to adhere to the government’s orders to curb the further spread of Covid-19.
“Therefore, Rapid Bus will also be rescheduling the frequency of bus services for Rapid KL, Rapid Penang, Rapid Kuantan, Rapid Manjung, Rapid Kamunting and BRT Sunway Line.
“For those who are still working outside, don’t worry as the Rapid Bus services will continue to operate to fulfill the needs of those who are working in essential services during this period, ” said Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Muhammad Yazurin Sallij in a statement on Thursday (Mar 19).
He added that starting Saturday (Mar 21), this decline in frequency of services based on demand will begin in phases until further notice.
Rapid Bus is also concerned about customer safety and vehicle hygiene, and has adopted the level of disinfection exercises that are in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
Rapid Bus also encourages customers to plan their journey via https://myrapidbus.prasarana.com.my/kiosk to get the live location of Rapid KL buses.
Meanwhile for MRT feeder buses, customers can refer to the latest schedule on the Rapid Bus Facebook page or contact it via its social media platforms as well as the hotline at 03-7885 2585.
For Rapid Penang services, customers can download the app Rapid Penang Journey Planner from GooglePlay or contact it via social media platforms as well as the hotline at 04-2558000.
