THE Health Ministry (MoH) yesterday reported 21 new Covid-19 positive cases with 15 local transmissions and six import cases, bringing the total active cases to 122 nationwide.
Health DG Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said a new cluster has emerged at an old folks’ home in Kluang, Johor, where 13 cases were recorded involving 12 Malaysians and one Indonesian.
“The first case of this cluster involved the 123rd death of Covid-19 which was reported on Sunday, where the screening test was found to be positive,” Dr Noor Hisham said.
As of Sunday, 39 people have been screened, out of which 14 tested positive, 18 were negative and seven are still awaiting results.
“Investigations and active case detection activities by the ministry are ongoing. The cause of infection for this cluster is still unknown,” he said.
Dr Noor Hisham added that preventive measures and the process of disinfection at the old folks’ home are being carried out.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin expressed his concern over the increase in positive cases of Covid-19 and the emergence of new clusters during the period of the Recovery Movement Control Order.
The increase in new cases yesterday has brought the country’s overall total to 8,800.
Among the active cases yesterday, three were placed in the intensive care unit, with one case under ventilator support.
Only two patients have recovered, increasing the total recovered cases in the country to 8,555, or 97.2% as of yesterday.
No new deaths have been recorded.
The death tally remains at 123. Separately, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said a total of 22,076 individuals have entered the country via Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and KLIA2 between
June 10 and July 19. He said all of them were screened by the MoH and 78 of the returnees were tested positive for Covid-19.
He added that 1,062 Malaysians returned to the country on July 19, in which they were ordered to undergo mandatory home quarantine.
Among them, only one person tested positive for Covid-19 and was sent to the hospital for treatment.
“The authorities have recorded full compliance among Malaysians required to undergo home quarantine upon returning from abroad,” he added.
Ismail Sabri added that checks on the availability of food items in the country are at its optimum level with sufficient food supply for all.
“The Domestic Trade and Consumerism Ministry had checked 126,781 business premises since May 13 and found that 119,433 had no problems following the regulations set by the ministry,” he noted.
