A Chinese national in Bintulu remains under medical quarantine there after she was hospitalised with symptoms of the Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV), Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad said today.
In a press conference in Sepang, he said the woman was in stable condition and under observation.
“We just received the news and I already spoke with the (hospital) director, and yes, she is under investigation,” Dzulkefly said.
He added that the woman has only been given symptomatic treatment.
Dzulkefly said that the number of confirmed infections locally was still four, pending confirmation of the Bintulu case.
“As of January 26, 2020 at 3pm, a total of 164,692 travellers had arrived at all of the international entries and were screened. Of these, nine travellers were referred for further examination. However, all of these travellers were found not to meet the 2019-nCoV PUI criteria as set out in the 2019-nCoV No 02/2020 virus management procedure.
“The traveller has been provided with a health warning card, where in the event of a serious symptom, the traveller should seek immediate treatment at a nearby health facility,” Dzulkefly said.
Dzulkefly was speaking to the press after a work visit to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2, to check on the preparedness of Immigration and Health Ministry officials, to contain the said virus outbreak.
There are four other pending cases of the virus awaiting lab results, all involving Chinese nationals. Two are in Langkawi, and two in Kuala Lumpur.
Cumulative cases for persons suspected to be infected by the coronavirus is 38, with one confirmed positive, 32 negative, and five awaiting lab results.
