The eighth route for the free GoKL bus service, which links PPR Batu Muda and Sentul LRT, has been launched.
The new route is expected to benefit an estimated 15,000 residents, including those who live in PPR Batu Muda, PA Seri Kelantan, PA Seri Pangkor, PA Seri Perak, PA Seri Negeri Sembilan, PA Fasa 3 and PA Fasa 8/9.
Called the Maroon Line, the bus will run every 15 minutes, passing key landmarks such as UTC Sentul, Klinik Kesihatan Taman Batu Muda, Pasar Sentul, 13 schools and six places of worship.
At the launch held at the bus stop outside PPR Batu Muda, Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd were committed to improving the public bus transportation system in the city and looking at more suitable routes to expand GoKL bus services.
“Demand for GoKL bus service is very encouraging.
“Last year, a total of 19.71 million commuters used the GoKL bus service, which averages 54,757 commuters a day or 1.64 million a month. Operational cost for DBKL is RM20mil per year, ” he said.
He highlighted that the GoKL bus service started in the central business district (CBD) and it had moved to areas outside the CBD to complete the “first and last mile” connection. “The idea is to connect commuters to the nearest transit station, for the convenience of shifting their mode of transportation from private vehicles to public transportation, ” he added.
Also present were Deputy Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Santhara Kumar, ministry secretary-general Datuk Rosida Jaafar, Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan and Batu MP P. Prabakaran.
The seven other GoKL routes are Green Line (KLCC – Bukit Bintang), Purple Line (Pasar Seni – Bukit Bintang), Red Line (Titiwangsa hub – KL Sentral), Blue Line (Titiwangsa hub – Bukit Bintang), Orange Line (Titiwangsa hub – Mindef), Pink Line (Universiti LRT to PPR Seri Pantai) and Turquoise Line (Kampung Dato’ Keramat LRT to Flat Kelumpuk Mambu, Setiawangsa).
Green, Purple, Red and Blue Lines run at a frequency of every five minutes during peak hours and every 10 minutes otherwise.
Orange, Pink and Turquoise Lines run at a frequency of every 15 minutes.
Annuar said the ministry was also looking at improving the public transportation system in Putrajaya, which was celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
“We are looking at ways to improve the bus services and revive the abandoned monorail project, ” he said.
DBKL encourages commuters to use GoKL’s mobile application which provides information such as bus routes, schedule and stop locations, to plan their journey better.
The application also allows commuters to lodge complaints about the services.
