Ridership on the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit is expected to increase in the coming days and weeks as more people go back to work, says Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL).
An ERL spokesman said since it restarted operations on May 4, the first three days had seen its ridership climbing to just 5% of the previous daily average before the enforcement of the movement control order (MCO).
“Before the impact of Covid-19, our total ridership was 24,500 passengers per day.
“We restarted operation on May 4, running a combined service from 6am to 11pm. In the first three days this week, the ridership was 5% of our previous daily average,” the spokesman said yesterday.
ERL is the operator of KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit that connect Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 to the city.
“With the eventual easing of travel restrictions by the government, travel by domestic flights will see demand for our KLIA Ekspres service increase,” the spokesman said.
In light of the easing of restrictions under the conditional MCO, KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit have been running on a limited service from 6am to 11pm every day.
The trains are operating every 20 minutes during peak hours on weekdays, and every 30 minutes during off-peak hours, weekends and national public holidays.
Meanwhile, AirAsia Bhd resumed domestic flights on April 29.
