Only 34 out of 6,155 individuals tested positive for Covid-19 at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) from June 10 to June 26, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said the remaining 6,121 who were screened tested negative and are currently undergoing mandatory home quarantine.
“Thirty-four individuals were found positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, ” he said in a statement yesterday.
The Senior Minister added that 425 Malaysians returned to the country via KLIA and klia2 from the Philippines, Nepal, Singapore, the UAE, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Qatar, Pakistan and Brunei on Friday.
Three of these returnees tested positive for the virus.
Ismail Sabri said the government decided on Friday to allow expatriates wishing to leave Malaysia to do so only in cases of emergency or for medical reasons.
He said the government would not hinder any foreigner wishing to return to their country of origin if it was a one-way trip.
“Foreigners without any travel documents must first obtain the documents from their respective embassies, ” he said.
He also said that there was no prohibition on foreigners working as crew onboard Malaysian fishing vessels.
“However, these foreigners must apply for temporary working visit permits from the Immigration Department and undergo Covid-19 screening, including the 14-day mandatory quarantine, ” he said.
He added that employers must provide them with living quarters.
On a separate matter, Ismail Sabri said police detained 53 individuals for breaching the recovery movement control order (MCO).
He said those penalised included one for operating a karaoke centre, 45 for operating pubs and nightclubs, three for opening reflexology and massage centres, three for breaching recovery MCO regulations and one involving a gathering without social distancing.
He said police carried out 68 roadblocks and inspected 46,023 vehicles during the nationwide
