The works ministry has completed 4,303 or 84 per cent of the total development projects under the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP), the Dewan Rakyat was told today.
Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusoff said as of March 31, the ministry was entrusted to carry out a total of 5,095 projects nationwide.
“Of the total, 358 projects are still under construction while 434 projects are at pre-construction stage.
“Only 770 projects under the supervision of the works department were delayed,” he said when replying to a question from Datuk Abd Aziz Sheikh Fadzir (BN-Kulim Bandar Baharu).
Abd Aziz had wanted to know the number of contractors who failed to complete government projects from 2010 to 2014.
Fadillah said contractors who failed to complete the projects on schedule had been fined while 128 contracts were terminated.
“The contractors who were fired will not be allowed to take part in the government’s procurement or tender within a specific time,” he said.
Answering a supplementary question from Nasrudin Hassan (PAS-Temerloh) on the Kelantan Matriculation College in Pasir Puteh and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2), Fadillah said action was taken against the contractor for the college over a failure to complete the project on time.
“Meanwhile, the klia2 is a private project,” he said. — Bernama
