Nuance-Watson Asia said it will target "inquisitive, aspirational customers" when it opens its first concessions in Malaysia next year.
The business was last week awarded two licences to operate the chocolate and confectionery concepts at the forthcoming Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) in Sepang, as revealed by The Moodie Report.

Branded ‘Taste and Treats’ and ‘Taste and Delights’, the two concepts will each embrace a wide variety of choices and distinctive offerings that respectively cater to families with young children and travellers shopping for gifts.
Due to open in April 2013, the concessions will cover a floor area of 215sq m at klia2 Airside International Departures and contracts will run for five years until 2018.
Nuance-Watson Asia Regional Managing Director Alessandra Piovesana said: “We are gratified and highly motivated with the outcome of the klia2 tender, which is giving birth to Nuance-Watson (Malaysia).
“This new promising and strategic offspring of Nuance-Watson Asia is opening up new avenues for our company development in the region. We are grateful to Malaysia Airports for considering Nuance-Watson for this opportunity.”
She added: “Purchases of confectionery always tend to be impulsive, therefore interactive store set-up and displays, inviting shopping ambience and engaging services, extensive product variety and unique packaging, attractive pricing and creative promotion and tasting offerings are all critically important.
"Leveraging our category expertise and insights, strong brand partnerships and operational experience, we are confident to match klia2’s expectation to attract the world’s retail explorers with its “E.L.I.T.E.” principle i.e. being “Experiential, Liberating, Innovative, Thrilling and Ever-changing”. With our united regional team and in partnership with Malaysia Airports, we are ready to embark upon a new path of growth."
The concession gains mark an important step forward for Nuance-Watson Asia in the region, after losing its core category duty free concessions at Hong Kong International Airport to DFS earlier this year.
The company has made no secret of its ambitions to expand further in Asia Pacific, and these concessions are an important stepping stone on that journey.
