AirAsia feted travellers to a carnival-like extravaganza at KLIA‘s Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) as the high-flying budget carrier celebrated a decade of ensuring “everyone can fly”.
The festivities started with a trip down memory lane.
AirAsia chairman Datuk Aziz Bakar went down to the tarmac to welcome passengers aboard flight AK5101 from Kota Kinabalu which was the airline’s first route when it took off in 2001.

Back at the terminal, the fun continued with a series of games and performances to the delight of passengers and families.
The festivities ended with a cake-cutting ceremony by Aziz and AirAsia group chief executive officer and co-founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes.
They were accompanied by Fernandes’ deputy and co-founder Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, members of AirAsia’s board of directors Datuk Fam Lee Ee and Lim Kian Onn, AirAsia Philippines CEO Marianne Hontiveros, AirAsia Indonesia CEO Capt Dharmadi and AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman-Rani.
At the event, Fernandes also gave away free tickets to Tokyo, London and Paris to lucky travellers who were able to give him anything in red.
In conjunction with the celebrations, the airline is offering flights from Kuala Lumpur to destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Singapore, Bali, Bangkok and Hanoi from as low as 10 sen.
Booking period for the Awesome sale started yesterday and will end on Sunday for a travel period between July 1 and Oct 27 next year.
