KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has introduced two additional routes under its GoKL free bus service from Nov 1.
The Parrot Green line route will connect Maluri LRT station to Bandar Sri Permaisuri while Grey line buses will travel between Cochrane MRT station and Bandar Tun Razak.
Parrot Green line buses will pass through Taman Tasik Permaisuri and stop at Permaisuri Q Complex, as well as SMK Seri Tasik, Cheras LRT station and two mosques.
The Grey line route will include Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre, DBKL Training Institute and Sunway Velocity Mall.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the buses would ply on a frequency of 30 minutes.
“But this will be cut down to eight minutes during peak hours,” he said after launching the new routes at Wangsa Walk Mall in Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur.
Mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah, who was also present, said GoKL now served 11 routes.
“We hope that the free bus service will help reduce travel expenses for low-income households.”
He hoped more city folk would use public transport, noting that DBKL aimed to reduce the usage of personal vehicles by 30% by 2025.
“And by 2040, we want 70% of Kuala Lumpur folk to use public transport,” he said, adding that this would result in less carbon emission.
Shahidan also announced a pilot project involving an electric bus, to serve the brown line from Nov 1, connecting Section 10 and Sri Rampai LRT station in Wangsa Maju.
He said DBKL would add more electric buses in phases by end 2023 to replace existing ones.
“This is part of our efforts in cutting down carbon emission in the city,” he added.
GoKL recorded a drop of 800,000 passengers a month in 2020, from the 1.64 million passengers in 2019, due to movement restrictions.
Also present at the launch were Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, MCA Youth chief Datuk Nicole Wong, who is also Federal Territories liaison committee chairperson, and Wangsa Maju MP Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew’s special officer Andre Lai.
