KTM commuters are overjoyed at the prospect of travelling on the six-car trains for a better ride that are expected to reduce overcrowding drastically from this weekend.
“This is great news,” said student R. Puvanesan, who travels by train daily to his college in Brickfields.
“Sometimes the trains are delayed and I end up being late for classes, and then I would have to find alternative ways to college. I believe the new trains will be punctual and comfortable for a better ride,” he added.
Another commuter, who only wanted to be known as Koh, said overcrowding had been a problem.
“It will be good to have additional trains as this will mean less crowded coaches,” said the 70-year-old retiree, who is a regular KTM passenger.
Report analyst Choo Wei Lin, 24, was eager to travel in the new trains which will have many passenger-friendly features, including an LCD screen notification system.
She hopes the new trains will help overcome overcrowding and late arrivals.
“I once waited for two hours for a train. It was raining and the track was flooded,” she recalled.
English couple Malcolm Watson, 42, and Sharon Lucus, 26, praised KTM, saying its trains were “comfortable and clean”.
They said they had been using KTM trains during their three-week holiday here and were happy with the service.
KTM Komuter is the first electrified commuter train service in Malaysia and it was established in 1995 to provide passengers with extensive access to all locations in the Klang Valley.
