AirAsia FAQs

Q. Can I combine my checked baggage with my travelling companion?

Yes, you can combine the baggage if you are travelling with the same PNR booking number and present yourselves together at the check-in counter.

Q. Does AirAsia provide free check in baggage allowance?

No. If you travel with check in baggage you will be charged a fee at different rates depending on the weight and the airport from which you fly. You can access fee schedule here. Do be aware that you will be charged a flat rate for the first 15kg and a different rate for each additional kg at the airport.

Q. What items will be carried free of charge as checked baggage?

Baby strollers/buggies/prams, wheelchairs, mobility devices, crutches and walking frames can be carried free of charge as checked baggage provided they are being used and/or an infant, child, elderly, disable or a wheelchair user that is travelling. Otherwise, a checked baggage allowance must be prebooked. Read more...

Q. Can I increase my baggage weight?

You may Supersize your baggage up to 40kg, for a fee. You can do this:

  • By going to booking.airasia.com and logging on Manage My Booking up to 4 hours prior to scheduled departure time.
  • Through AirAsia's Call Centre up to 4 hours prior to scheduled departure time - You can save at least 50% by purchasing baggage weight online before departing for the airport. The Baggage Supersize Fee is non-refundable if you decide to decrease your checked baggage weight. You can view the Fee Schedule online.

Q. What happens to my baggage if I have an onward flight with AirAsia?

AirAsia operates on a point-to-point basis, or a per sector basis.

This means onward flights are considered as separate journeys, or separate sectors. Therefore, you need to claim your baggage from your first sector flight and re-check them in for the subsequent flight. You will have to go through immigration check (if arriving from an international sector) and must check in again at the check-in counter to obtain your boarding pass. In this context, AirAsia will not be held responsible for the consequence of any delays experienced while flying AirAsia.

If you have purchased a "Fly-thru" flight then kindly ensure that your baggage is checked in all the way through to the final destination during checkin for the 1st leg of your flight and you should proceed to the transfer counter upon arrival at the transit station. Example Bali-Kuala Lumpur-Gatwick, Bali will be the 1st leg, Kuala Lumpur will be the transitting station and Gatwick will be the final destination. This only applies if you have purchased a "Fly-thru" otherwise what was stated in paragraph above applies.
