Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) today launched Airport WiFi service with two main features — free access and premium access — at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2 here.
Managing Director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said the service is part of more than 40 initiatives identified under the Total Airport Experience (TAE), a strategic pillar under MAHB's recently launched five-year business plan Runway to Success 2020.
"With Airport WiFi, airport users can quickly catch up on their emails or share their experiences with their loved ones on social media using the free one-hour access," he said at a media conference here today.
The premium WiFi service, costing RM8, offers unlimited quota for 24 hours and a speed of 2Mbps per device.
The premium airport WiFi ID can be purchased online via the Airport WiFi landing page and also by cash at any vending machine in the terminals or any participating Eraman outlet.
On the haze that is expected to begin next month and last until October, Badlisham said the airport operator is prepared for such a contingency.
"We have previously faced several severe haze incidents, and we are constantly in touch with the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) to ensure the runways are safe for take-off and landing," he said, adding flights will be cancelled on instructions from the DCA.
The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry has said that Malaysia is expected to experience transboundary haze from next month until October in the wake of the hot and dry weather in Sumatra and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
The haze, however, could be moderate with the La Nina phenomenon expected to occur within the same period, bringing rainfall to some parts of the peninsula.
