THE Public Accounts Committee has taken the Finance Ministry to task for not reporting back to PAC on the progress by ministries to act on its recommendations.
Despite a request to update the committee on the corrective actions being taken by these ministries, PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said an official report was not forthcoming.
“The Treasury should prepare and present a final memorandum to the PAC based on the feedback received from the relevant officers.
“However, until today, the Treasury had failed to follow the rules on reporting back,” he said after issuing a PAC report card on the Government in Parliament House yesterday.
He said the lack of information to date from the Finance Ministry was unacceptable, as the people wanted answers on the recurring issues that crop up in the Auditor-General’s annual report.
He laid the blame on the Finance Ministry as it was responsible for instructing the Auditor-General’s Department to conduct the yearly Government audits.
Nur Jazlan was also irked by the inaction over the PAC’s recommendations on the klia2 and the incinerator projects, which had been made nearly six months ago.
He urged the Government to act on PAC’s recommendation for the A-G to carry out a comprehensive audit of klia2, as highlighted in the report card.
“We also demanded that action be taken against the officials and experts responsible for the failure of four incinerator projects nationwide,” he said.
In the report card, PAC listed 67 recommendations on 13 different projects it had made since November.
