A verifier travel document and biometrics system facility is being installed at the Malaysia Airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2), to detect fake travel documents in less than 20 seconds.
The Canadian High Commission in Malaysia handed over the solution, which was developed by International Organization for Migration in Bangkok, Thailand, with funding from Canada’s Anti-Crime Capacity Building Project, to Kuala Lumpur International Airport immigration director Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad here today.
“It reads information and chips in passports and compares biometric identifiers against all records, all in less than 20 seconds,” according to the embassy statement released in conjunction with the handing over event.
Mohd Zulfikar, in his speech at the handing-over ceremony said the verifier would be placed at the klia2 Immigration Department Document Examination Centre located at the departure level.
He said the first verifier, also funded by the Canadian High Commission in Malaysia, was deployed in KLIA last year and had since assisted in 1,301 cases related to fraudulent, forged, imposters and counterfeit documents.
